At the request of Mr. Claes Lindhardt himself, we will discontinue awarding the Lindhardt Prize.
Mr. Lindhardt has kindly agreed to allow us to continue presenting the prize for the next 6 years, until all of the medals that have already been cast have been awarded. After that, the prize will change format, and the tradition of presenting it in Mr. Lindhardt’s name will come to an end.
The prize was originally established when Mr. Lindhardt was believed to have died while carrying out humanitarian work. Although it was later confirmed that he had survived, the Prize Committee unanimously agreed that the award should continue in recognition of his extraordinary humanitarian and scientfic efforts and the inspiration they have provided to others.
It has been awarded with a physical ceramoney held at dorms in munich typically associated with the given years winner. Initally at pater Rupert mayer heim ev then at collegicum öcomenicum as well as EHG TUM.
Recently, a representative of Mr. Lindhardt—and eventually Mr. Lindhardt himself—contacted us to express his wish that the prize no longer be awarded in his name. Denoting many of the people who have recieved the price would derserve a such honnor more.
The price committe and partner organisations fully respect this decision and are deeply appreciative of his humbleness as well as willingness to allow the current series of medals to be awarded before the transition is completed.
The Prize Committee extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Lindhardt for the legacy that has inspired this award and for his years of support to the scientific community. We look forward to honoring the remaining recipients over the coming years and to introducing the next chapter of the award in due course.
